Dr. Edward Salmon Elected President of ARTP Board
POMONA, NJ - Dr. Edward H. Salmon, Chairman of Salmon
Ventures Ltd., was elected Board President of the Aviation Research Technology
Park, Inc. (ARTP). Dr. Salmon is taking over the position from Dr. Herman J.
Saatkamp, President of Stockton College, who recently concluded his three-year
term as the founding ARTP Board President.
"Thanks to his dedication and leadership, Herman has
done an outstanding job in getting the ARTP development off the ground and
headed in the right direction," said Dr. Salmon. "As the new Board
President, I look forward to continuing Herman's work on the ARTP and moving
South Jersey one step closer to the cutting edge of global aviation
technology."
The ARTP is a nonprofit corporation tasked with developing
and eventually constructing a Next Generation Aviation and Technology Research
Park on the campus of the FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center in Atlantic
County, NJ. The federal government is poised to spend billions of dollars
to convert our nation's air traffic control system from radar-based to
satellite-based, which is well underway in Europe. The ARTP's mission is to
leverage the core expertise at the FAA Technical Center with academic and
private sector expansion of aviation technologies, making this area the
epicenter for the transformation of the National Airspace System.
"Ed Salmon is recognized throughout the state for his
experience, leadership, work ethic and distinguished career of service to New
Jersey," said Dr. Saatkamp. "I have great confidence in his ability
to lead the ARTP through the challenges that lie ahead."
Dr. Salmon served in public office under the administrations
of six New Jersey governors. He is a former coach, teacher, school
administrator, director of public works, Mayor, Freeholder Director, NJ
Assemblyman, President of the NJ Board of Public Utilities and member of the
Governor's Cabinet. Through his involvement in the National Association of
Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), Dr. Salmon served for two years as
Vice President and Chairman of the Executive Committee. He is currently
President of NARUC's Commissioners Emeritus. In 2003, he co-founded Salmon
Ventures, a New Jersey-based firm that provides national consulting services to
utilities, government agencies, school districts, healthcare organizations and
businesses.
In addition to Dr. Salmon, the ARTP board members elected
Dr. Anne Harlan as Vice President, Dennis Levinson as Secretary and Bart
Mueller as Treasurer.
Dr. Anne Harlan is a retired Director of the FAA William J.
Hughes Technical Center. She served as Director from 1997 to 2006 and as Deputy
Director from 1995 to 1997. There she was responsible for the strategic
leadership and operation of the FAA's premier research and development
facility. Prior to her work at the Technical Center, Anne held a variety of
managerial positions in the FAA and holds a multi-engine, commercial pilot
certificate. In addition, she is a former faculty member of the Harvard
Business School and has served as a management consultant to numerous Fortune
500 companies on strategic planning and organizational effectiveness Anne is an
associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, a
senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and a
member of the Air Traffic Control Association.
Dennis Levinson, a Ventnor native, has served as Atlantic
County Executive since 2000. Prior to that he served four terms as an Atlantic
County Freeholder at large and was elected Freeholder Chairman six times. He is
also a former member of the Northfield city council. Dennis's achievements and
community involvement have been recognized by numerous civic, service and
charitable organizations. His special recognitions include the American Red
Cross Distinguished Service Award, the Atlantic City Mainland Chamber of
Commerce Man of the Year and the New Jersey Governor's Leadership Award for
Tourism.
Bart Mueller is the Executive Director of the South Jersey
Transportation Authority, which owns and operates the Atlantic City Expressway
and the Atlantic City International Airport. Under Bart's direction, the SJTA
has embarked on the most ambitious capital program in the Authority's history,
including the addition of a third westbound lane on the Atlantic City
Expressway and the expansion of the Atlantic City International Airport's
facility and air service development. Mr. Mueller retired from Bell Atlantic
Corp. after nearly twenty-five years of service.
